Garuda Restaurant is an Indonesian restaurants chain serving authentic Padang / Minangkabau food. They have a branch in Orchard Road, Singapore (behind The Heeren Shops), and just opened another branch at VivoCity's basement floor.

I haven't visited both outlets, instead, I managed to visit one of the restaurants in Jakarta during my mudik trip to Jakarta last month. The one I visited is the branch located along Arteri Pondok Indah highway. If you're taking the highway from Pejompongan towards Pondok Indah, the restaurant is located on the left side of the road, before the Kostrad junction.

How about the food? Well, we might appreciate its Minang-authenticity in Singapore, but in Jakarta? Not too much different from other Padang restaurants such as Sederhana or Simpang Raya. Furthermore, each dish is priced a bit more expensive compared to its competitors, so I don't see any added value to it. But still, the food can satisfy our Singapore-fed stomach craving for authentic Minang food. :)

jadi gimana rasanya kalo di bandingin ama yg di Kedai Ibu??? Enakan mana? kalo buat kocek ya lbh enak mkn di tempat neng Ellen lah yaw :)

Saya belum sempet nyobain Garuda yang di SG, Teh. Berat di ongkos katanya. Mending puas-puasin aja nanti pas mudik ke Jakarta, hahaha. :)

Kalo boleh ikut nambahin komentar. Semalam bersama rekan2 kantor, kami makan malam di GARUDA Restaurant Jl. Boulevard Barat, Kelapa Gading. Tempat dan suasananya bagus, bersih, luas dan terang.
kalaupun ada lalat ( lho .? ) tidak lebih dari dua ekor, itupun tidak lama karena sudah disiapkan banyak lilin yang menyala di atas meja kami.
Urusan Citarasa memang beda lidah beda pula rasanya, tapi menurut kami, tidak berbeda dengan RM.Padang yang lainnya. Slogan "Nikmatnya santapan Sejuta Kesan" mengingatkan kami pada pelayanan yang masih kurang ramah dan kurang gesit dalam merespon kebutuhan pelanggan. Untuk sebuah menu tertentu yang belum tersaji di atas meja, sampai menanyakan kepada 3 karyawan yang lewat dalam lebih kurang 20 menit. Proses pengambilan piring kotor pun dengan cara yang kurang nyaman.

Mas Indra kalau mau yang benar2 authentic, aya undang ke Bukittinggi. Gimana mau ikut pulang basamo nggak tanggal 29 Nov-4 Dec 2008. Hurry up pendaftaran akan ditutup tgl 20 September 2008
