Yesterday morning, we went to West Coast Park upon invitation from Indi and Rani for their farewell party in Singapore. They will be migrating back to Jakarta after Indi secured a new job in a multi-national company there.
At the same time, the IndoSing-Mums community, where my wife has taken part in the past couple of years, is celebrating its fifth birthday. On behalf of myself and my family, I would like to take this opportunity to wish the IndoSing-Mums community a very happy birthday. :)
We reached the park on-time at 9am sharp, but at the wrong carpark. :( I was under impression that the BBQ pits are located along the shore near carpark 3, where all the activities (and the playgrounds) are located. However, the BBQ pits have been moved to a more secluded area of the park, near carpark 2.
We needed to go to Suntec City for Irza's drum lesson at 11:15am, so we missed the farewell and birthday event even though we were back to the park at around noon. Nevertheless, Inka and Irza still had the opportunity to try the "car-bike" ride which is available in the park.
After the event, we went to VivoCity and we met Shinta and Aidan together with mbak Neta, one of my best friend Boyke's elder sister, who were on her way back from Bangkok to Batam. We also met Yuwono's family there.

Last Sunday, we went to Dante's birthday party, located at Aci and Mia's residence at Ridgewood condominium, Ulu Pandan, Singapore. The birthday party was conducted at their house, and then moved to the BBQ pit for satay grilling. Braddell satay is, again, becoming the signature dish for the BBQ. :)
Irza took the opportunity to swim at the swimming pool there with his friends, while Inka had to attend another birthday party, her classmate's, at Freesia Woods, which is located nearby.

| | Date: Saturday, 10 May 2008. Location: HSBC Treetop Walk, Central Catchment Reserve, MacRitchie, Singapore.
Earlier this morning, as part of my so-called "effort" to keep fit and reduce some weight :), I took Inka and Irza for a walk along the MacRitchie trail in the forested Central Catchment Nature Reserve to the HSBC Treetop Walk, a suspension bridge which provide a bird's eye view of the forest.
We started our journey from the Venus Drive carpark located off Upper Thomson Road, where I parked my car. From there, we walk several kilometres along the Treetop trail, past the Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) and going via the Terentang trail, past the Ranger Station and climb up the hill to the entrance of the suspension bridge.
It turns out to be quite a long walk, around 2.5 km and 1 hour walk, from the Venus Drive carpark to the entrance of the Treetop Walk. Luckily the kids didn't complain, they really enjoyed their morning walk through the forest. Wondering whether it is possible to park our car at the carpark inside the SICC, that would greatly help in cutting down the walking time to the Treetop Walk.
The view from the suspension bridge is spectacular. The kids were also enjoying the view and had fun. Unfortunately, the bridge is quite narrow and it's a one-way traffic flow so we couldn't spend much time on the bridge, otherwise we will block people behind. Nevertheless, I managed to take some pictures of the kids while we were crossing the bridge.
Since it's a one-way traffic, we had to move on and follow the Petaling trail to go back to the Ranger Station and further back to the carpark. This is quite a long detour via Petaling Hut and then follow Sime track eastward back to the Ranger Station, adding around 30-45 minutes of journey time. The total length of journey from Venus Drive carpark to Treetop Walk and then back to carpark via Petaling hut is more than 7km, so it might not be suitable for certain kids, especially younger ones. Irza and Inka also started to complain that they're tired when we just left Petaling hut for the Ranger Station, and that was still a long journey back to the carpark. :) Fortunately, they made it. :) :)

On Saturday, 19 April 2008, we went to The Waterina for Inka and Irza to attend Anggana's 6th birthday party.
Unfortunately, the camera was having technical difficulties resulting in blurred images on almost all of the pictures. :( After consulting my friends at Indo-Sing Photographer's mailing list, only then I found out that the so called "technical difficulties" was because the camera's lens is dirty... *sigh* :(

| | Date: 4 April 2008. Location: Pasar malam next to Causeway Point and Woodlands MRT station.
Ticket prices: - Bumper car, $4/car (not per person) - Other rides, $3/person (adult accompanying kids also have to pay separate ticket)
Still, very expensive, IMHO. No wonder why it's a bit empty. No queue at all on any of the rides.

| | Date: Friday, 21 March 2008. Location: East Coast Park, Singapore.
On a Good Friday evening, I took Inka and Irza to East Coast Park for another cycling trip. East Coast Park has always been our favourite place for cycling activities in Singapore.
Instead of renting the bicycles at the usual place in Marine Cove, we rented the bicycles at another kiosk in Raintree Cove, further east from Marine Cove, near a Burger King outlet there. The bicycles are of better quality, with the same price and the same promotion (rent 1 hour and get another hour free).
Similar to Tante Ira and her abang, we cycled for more than 1.5 hours there, after which, the kids were still begging for more (!!!) before I forced them to return the bicycles to the kiosk. We covered the longest route we have achieved at East Coast Park so far, from the kiosk at Raintree Cove going west past Marine Cove and the new Playground @ Big Splash up until the end of the cycling path (near Fort Road) and back, and then passing Raintree Cove further east, past the Siglap canal, circling the Island Resort and then back to the kiosk.

| | Various pictures taken at IMM Building, Jurong East, Singapore. IMM is one of our favourite shopping centres we frequently visit, since it's very close to our current (and near future) residence.
IMM is equipped with a playground, which is located on the 3rd floor of the shopping mall. There are two playgrounds, wet and dry, which are located side by side.
Not far from the playgrounds, is a halal food court called Bagus, which is managed by Banquet.
Downstairs on the first (ground) floor, there's Giant Hypermart where we usually buy our groceries.

| | Date: Sunday, 10 February 2008. Location: Along the route of the Heritage Tour, Hippo bus tour, Singapore.
Still making use of the 3-in-1 Duck, Hippo and DHL Balloon combo tickets promotion, at the end of the long Chinese New Year weekend last month, we took the Hippo Tours bus ride around Singapore.
There were two Hippo Tour routes being offered: City Tour and Heritage Tour. We took the Heritage Tour route, which brought us through Little India, Kampong Glam, Arab Street, Chinatown and the Civic District of Singapore.

Selamat mendengarkan. :)
| | Date: Sunday, 3 February 2007. Location: Cavana chicken rice restaurant, Marina Square, Singapore.
Cavana chicken rice is one of our favourite restaurants in Singapore. It's halal and the classic chicken rice on the menu is always becoming a hit for the kids.
It has many outlets all over Singapore but the one we usually visit is the one at Marina Square.

This article is originally posted on ABN's Asia Travel Blog here. Singapore DUCKtours is a combined city and harbour tour in Singapore, using a refurbished ex-military amphibious vehicle they call as "duck" which can travel on both land and water. The one-hour tour comprises of 40 minutes water tour around Singapore's Marina Bay area and 20 minutes land tour around Singapore's civic district. The water tour in the Marina Bay area will show you places around the Singapore Flyer, Benjamin Sheares bridge, the floating platform, Esplanade and the Merlion, while the land tour in the civic district area will show you places around City Hall and the Padang. The tour departs from Suntec City on an hourly basis between 10am to 7pm, subject to weather conditions. The price is $33 for adult and $17 for child, quite expensive since it's catered more for tourists. To purchase the tickets, we can approach the ticketing counter, which is located at the Suntec City Mall, near the Convention Centre area. We can use major credit cards for payment. We will board the duck on an open area just next to the ticketing counter. There is a tour guide who accompanies all the guests throughout the journey and give running commentaries with regards to all the tourist attractions along the way. The best photo stop would be the Merlion, where the duck boat will have a brief stop to allow all guests to take pictures of the Merlion from both sides of the boat. Note: More pictures can be found here.
| | Date: Saturday, 16 February 2008. Location: Signature Park, Singapore.
Today, we attended a Chinese New Year Family Carnival at our apartment's complex. My wife also participated in the bazaar, getting a table to sell her specialties: food and accessories, together with jeng Epha. Some of their friends (some with their husbands and kids) were also coming to support them.
There are lion dance performance and magic show, and the kids were also participating in some of the games. Inka got herself a tiny little fish on one of the games, and Inka and her team won second prize for costume design competition, which Inka was the model.
On a pleasant surprise, we also got ourselves the second winner of the door prize! :) :)
